Introduction: The simultanous increased prevalence of obesity and colorectal cancer in recent years has increased the need to investigate and identify common genes and pathways related to both of them. In this regard,There are several common genes, which one of the most famous is leptin that, its altered concentration has effective role in both colorectal cancer and obesity development and progression.
Methods: we searched NCBI database and choosed 40 SNPs which have citation in pubmed database and assesed them in terms of association with colorectal cancer development, then investigate the effect of this polymorphisms in both colorectal cancer and obesity via mega gene pharmacogenomics software.
Results: We revealed that 3 SNPs of LEP gene named rs-2167270,rs-3828942,rs-4731426 are the most common SNPs in LEP gene which probably associated to colorectal cancer development
Conclusion: These results should be confirmed by a sufficient sample of patients and polymorphism detection methods should be performed in patients with colorectal cancer to determine whether these polymorphisms found in the leptin gene are truly associated with colorectal cancer.
