Introduction: The anticipation and effective management of pain in pediatric patients are an essential component of healthcare. The International Association for the Study of Pain defines chronic pain as pain that lasts more than three months or recurs, which is relatively common in pediatrics. This study aimed to evaluate various methods of chronic pain control in pediatric patients.
Methods: This study employed a narrative review approach. It used a combination of keywords — including “chronic pain,” “pediatric,” “pain management,” and “pain therapy” — to search electronic databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus for relevant studies published between 2015 and 2025.
Results: This narrative review identified several effective strategies for managing chronic pain in pediatric patients. Pharmacological treatments, including acetaminophen and NSAIDs, are commonly used but have limited supporting evidence. Psychological and physical interventions such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, physiotherapy, and relaxation techniques demonstrated significant benefits. Emerging technologies like mobile applications provide additional support through patient education and self-management. Multidisciplinary care approaches, such as anesthesiologists, specialized nurses, and physiotherapists, were essential for optimal pain control.
Conclusion: Managing chronic pain in pediatric patients requires a multidimensional approach combining medication, psychological support, and physical therapies. Non-drug interventions and digital tools are valuable, and multidisciplinary care is key to improving outcomes.
