  • Introduction: Herbal medical profession is a major part of local and traditional medical profession in every region of the world and is the central focus of natural remedies. Consuming herbal drugs is common in most communities for treatments of disorders such as mental illnesses. Mental disorders and general dilemma like depression, insomnia, anxiety, and stress which are prevalent in modern life. And a high percentage of mental illnesses are caused by depression which is increasing every day. If medicinal plant species get introduced properly in the community, they can have a significant impact on people's health and the economy of people society, while preventing the unauthorized use of chemical drugs. In the recent past, in many ancient countries, especially Iran, many herbal drugs were used to treat these diseases Due to the diversity of climatic and topographic factors, Iran has a good diversity and richness of vegetation, but its lack of identification and usage hinder the try for sufficient efforts in their exploitation, hence the vital role of identification and introduction of medicines in the country. It can be a small step towards enhancing the culture of using wild plants in the treatment of common diseases.
  • Methods: In this study, the medical plants used in the treatment of neurological and mental diseases were extracted using library studies and internet sites and then some of the specifics of these herbs such as ginger, chemical compounds, beneficial organs and their propagation were studied. It was concluded that the results of this study can be a guide for pharmacists in diagnosing and using medicinal plants. The main purpose of this study is to introduce herbs that are useful for treatments of neuropsychiatric disorders. By referring to various herbal medicine sellers and reviewing a large number of Persian and foreign scientific texts, the most important herbal drugs got extracted and their distributions were determined by the flora resources
  • Results: In overall, studies have shown the positive effects of Lamiaceae and Asteraceae on the treatment of diseases such as nervous and tension headaches, palpitations and anxiety, memory loss, Alzheimer's or dementia, migraine attacks, insomnia, depression, and sadness.
  • Conclusion: According to the above, the use of herbal medicines can be a turning point in modern medicines and treatments of many diseases and it's good to mention the benefits of using these natural medicines as much as possible and hopefully this will be at the top of the ministry of health's plan for the future.
