• Presenting a Conceptual Framework for Designing a Cancer Patient Education Portal: A Systematic Review

  • Introduction: Designing web portals for cancer patients in order to continue their care and rehabilitation is one of the most important activities in cancer patient education. Given the importance of this issue and the holding of an international workshop in the United States in 2018 with the participation of 71 representatives from more than 30 health systems, professional organizations and technology companies around the world, articles on cancer patients’ education, information needs and factors influencing the design of a cancer patients’ education portal were presented, and through a systematic review of the papers of this international workshop, a conceptual framework was developed to design a suitable portal for cancer patients education.
  • Methods: This study was a systematic review of 100 articles out of 300 articles presented at the international cancer patient education workshop, and finally, the knowledge gap in the areas of portal design for cancer patient education was identified.
  • Results: Based on thematic analyses, a conceptual framework in the field of designing an education portal for cancer patients has been presented.
  • Conclusion: Some of these frameworks include standards, privacy and security, user-centered design, implementation, data and content, clinical decision support, and evaluation; this paper provides a comprehensive and detailed description of these frameworks.
