  • Introduction: From a Darwinian perspective we live to reproduce, but in various situations genetic males elect not to reproduce by choosing medical treatments leading to infertility, impotence, and, in the extreme, emasculation. For many men, infertility can be psychologically distressing. Infertility statistics in Iran are different from other countries in the world so that infertility in the world is 15%, but in Iran about 24%, infertility can be caused by unhealthy nutrition and poor lifestyle. One of the methods to solve this problem is stem cell therapy. Stem cells refer to those body's cells which are still undifferentiated and have proliferative power and the ability to differentiate into other types of cells in the body. Considering the importance and sensitivity of fertility in human societies and efforts to search for a solution to reduce fertility disorders in men and women, this review study was performed with aim to evaluate the application of stem cells in the treatment of reproductive disorders in women and men.
  • Methods: In this review study, the information on the use of stem cells in the treatment of reproductive disorders in men and women was searched in databases such as SID, Magiran, PubMed, Irandoc, Iranmedx Scopus, Google scholar, web of science using the keywords of stem cells, infertility, reproductive disorders, men and women without time limitation. Data analysis was carried out qualitatively. Finally, 48 papers in English and Persian were used for the regulation of the article.
  • Results: The ovarian and uterine stem cells and Spermatogonial stem cells in the treatment of infertility caused by chemotherapy, autoimmune diseases, environmental hazards, diseases associated with X chromosome, adolescence endometriosis or ovarian cysts and ovarian cancer before menopause, fertility preservation, prevention of transmission of genetic diseases are from the application of stem cells in medical sciences that some of them has been reviewed and approved in animals and humans, and some only in animals.Germ stem cells in the adult mammalian ovary are a population of germ cells with the ability to self-regenerate as a source of gametogenesis. These cells exist in a variety of forms in a number of organisms, from melanogaster to mammals. These cells in female Drosophila ovocytes produce mature oocytes in the adult ovary. The number of oocytes is reduced and eventually the germ cells of the ovary are reduced, which is a process of menopause in humans
  • Conclusion: Given the results of research in nonhuman mammals and recent advances in the cultivation and isolation of spermatogonial stem cells in humans, it seems that the aforementioned methods for treating infertility in cultivation and isolation may be safe and secure. Pre-treatment of cancer cells and their transplantation after treatment in infected individuals can be a viable treatment for fertility, since fertility preservation in this way leads to the condition that fertility is free from artificial reproductive methods and that the individual is in the process of Normal reproduction returns if its success rate is high It should also be used for adult men so that there is no need for IVF; however there are technical and ethical challenges in the use of stem cells in human samples which need more contemplation.
