  • Introduction: Infantile spasm is one of the most common epilepsy syndromes in the first year of life and the incidence is 1 in 2500 live births. Approximately 10% of children with infantile spasms will die to the age of two. Studies have shown that Prenatal Stress is the most often reported with infantile spasm. In this way, this review study examines the relationship between Prenatal Stress and infantile spasm.
  • Methods: Search was done by keywords in the databases: Pubmed, Google scholar , SID, Medlib, ISC and Irandoc in the period of 2014-2019. At the pubmed, 950 articles were received. By studying the title of the articles, 13 articles were selected. By studing the absteract of the articles, 5 articles were selected. At the Google Scholar, 370 articles were obtained ,1 articles were included. At the four databases 124 were identifiend and all removed. Finally we review 6 articles in this study.
  • Results: At six clinical trial articles, there was no similarity required to combine the data. five studies have confirmed the association between prenatal stress and infantile spasms, that way there is a direct relationship between level of prenatal stress and infantile spasms. Only one study didn’t confirm the association between prenatal stress and infantile spasm due to modulation of glucocorticoids, while affecting other pregnancies.
  • Conclusion: Finally, as most studies confirm the relationship between prenatal stress and infantile spasm, must try to reduce stress during pregnancy, including diet, stress hormone concentrations, awareness of mothers and environmental relaxation techniques. In addition, early diagnosis can prevent or reduce the severity of infantile spasms.
