• The effects of traditional medicine on male infertility

  • Introduction: nfertility is an important issue for couples, with about 40% of men having it. Due to the importance of the individual and social problems associated with infertility, couples are always striving to find less complicated, easier, less costly, and more effective treatments. Given the widespread use of traditional medicine in Iran, the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of traditional medicine on male infertility.
  • Methods: This article is a review study to investigate the effects of traditional medicine on male infertility. All articles, reports and websites related to this field and the status of using the latest technologies in this field were investigated with a specific search strategy.
  • Results: The results showed that plant extracts such as carrot seed, alcoholic extract of herring, garlic extract, marjoram, ginger increased fertility with increasing sperm count, increasing FSH sperm motility and sometimes LH and saffron. Also, parsley leaves due to antioxidant compounds, increase the pituitary gonadal axis hormones and henna plant significantly increase estrogen, testosterone and increase the number of cells, spermatocytes and spermatids. Also, the herbal composition of almond kernel, royal seed, leek seed, sage root, palm pollen and fig fruit are improved to improve sperm fertility in terms of sperm count and motility.
  • Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that herbal medicine increases sperm motility, number and morphology and increases testosterone epithelium and improves sperm structure and function by increasing testosterone level. Therefore, it should be considered as one of the components of male infertility treatment and should be planned to reinforce the proper and proper use of traditional medicine and remove barriers to make traditional medicine more applicable to infertility treatment.
