  • Introduction: Urinary tract infection is one of the most common bacterial infections in children. In many cases, this is preventable and appropriate health behaviors can protect a child from the disease or minimize the risk. Considering the relatively high prevalence of urinary tract infections in children and with regard to the important role of healthy behavior in preventing this infection, we decided to evaluate the Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of mothers about the prevention of urinary tract infections.
  • Methods: This study is a cross-sectional descriptive-analytic study performed in pediatric clinic of Imam Khomeini Hospital to determine the Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of mothers about UTI in children and evaluate its relationships with some demographic features. The data gathering tool was a researcher-made questionnaire based on literature review. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 22 software and P-value less than 5% was considered as statistically significant.
  • Results: The number of participants in the study was 115 mothers referring to pediatric clinic of Imam Khomeini Hospital. The average knowledge, Attitude, practice score in first part and practice score in second part were 6.21, 47.85, 13.86 and 10.66 respectively. A statistically significant relationship was found between the knowledge and attitude score. There was a significant relationship between maternal employment status, household income, household location and knowledge score. There was also a significant relationship between access to information and both knowledge and attitude scores.
  • Conclusion: Significant relationship between access to information resources and the mother's knowledge and attitude score confirms the importance of awareness in raising the level of knowledge of mothers in preventing urinary tract infection.
