  • Introduction: Ageing is one of the most critical challenges to general health. To ensure the health of older people and prevent chronic diseases, the first step is to determine their health status. This study aimed to investigate the health status of older people and their performance in daily activities.
  • Methods: This cross-sectional study was descriptive-analytical, and it was carried out during the June, July, and August (JJA) 2019 period. Based on inclusion criteria, 65 older people living in Tabriz were selected by convenience sampling method. Data were collected using demographic characteristics, health status information, and daily activities questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 21 with a significance level of 0/05.
  • Results: Most of the participants were female (53.8%), and the mean age (standard deviation of age) and body mass index (BMI) were 76.74 (7.84) and 27.54 (4.21), respectively. The subjects affected by high blood pressure (hypertension), sleep disorder (somnipathy), memory disorder, and anxiety were reported in 75%, 63%, and 71% of the cases, respectively. Most subjects had a denture, and they did not have any dental examination record over the past year. Data analysis suggests that there is no significant relationship between sex and daily activities (p= 0.47) and their performance in using the tools (p=0/37). However, the mean total score of these behaviors decreased with increasing age and decreasing levels of education, and there was a significant difference between the groups (p> 0.05).
  • Conclusion: According to the findings, demographic variables can significantly determine the levels of disability in older people. One should pay attention to the aspects of human physical, mental, and social health in all stages of life.
