  • Introduction: Introduction: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common cancers in the world. At present, other than surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy are the strategies for treating colorectal cancer, which are associated with undesirable side effects. Natural products, on the other hand, have demonstrated to have anti-cancer effects and fewer side effects. Ganoderma Lucidum (Lingzhi) is one of the natural compounds that has widely studied in recent years. Laboratory and preclinical research have confirmed its anti-tumor activity against many types of cancers. In this review, we summarized bioactive components of G. lucidum and their therapeutic effects in CRC.
  • Methods: Methods: A targeted search was done in electronic databases such as pubmed, google scholar and science direct. Relevant and up-to-date studies were selected to further analysis.
  • Results: Results: Triterpenoids and polysaccharides are the main constituents in G. lucidum. In vivo and in vitro studies have confirmed their anti-cancer activities in colorectal cancer. Investigations have demonstrated that these ingredients inhibited tumor growth, cell proliferation and migration, induced cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, and reduced cell viability via downregulation of critical genes such as cyclin D1, PCNA and Bcl-2, and upregulation of BAX, Caspase 3 and P21. Furthermore, immune modulating functions have also been reported for G. lucidum on patients.
  • Conclusion: Conclusion: Research highlights G. lucidum as a potent therapeutic for CRC.
