• Green synthesis of iron nanoparticles using fennel extract and evaluation of its antioxidant and anticancer properties

  • Introduction: In this study seed extract of medicinal plants was used to synthesize nano particles. Plants are used for preparation of nano particles due to their secondary antioxidant and anticancer properties.In this study we used fennel that its native to Iran. The toxicity of iron nano particles is lower than that of other nano particles.Antioxidant by DPPH and anticancer properties and total phenolic compounds content of seed extract and extract containing iron nano particles. Iron nano particles were examined by electron microscopy.Fennel has 10% oil-a little bit of sugar – mucilage – and 4% essence fennel oil contains 4% palmitic acid -22% oleic acid -14% linoiec acid -60% petroselinic acid .
  • Methods: Fennel seed extraction was performed using distilled water solvent percolation method with a ratio of 1 to 10 plants to solvent.for this purpose 100 g of dried powder was added to the beaker containing 1000 ml of distilled water. Stirrer was stirred for an hour and ultrasonic waves(30 KHZ) was used. Keep the extract solution with Whitman filter paper. Then 0.001 M solution of iron salt FeCl2,6H2O from the salt mentioned added to the extract that mentioned.as soon as we added the salt to extract the color change from yellow to brown that means nano particles were formed . The solution was centrifuged at 6000 RPM for 10 minutes. Rinse the solution with ethanol after drying and dry for 48 hours. Evaluation of antioxidant and anticancer potency with DPPH with 4 solution of varying concentration of extract .
  • Results: The color change from yellow to brown indicates the production of iron nano particles PH of extract before the experiment was 5/3 and after the experiment reached 2/2 and then it rose again to 4/5. According to the numbers and results that we reached from IC50 aqueous extract and extract containing iron nano particles inhibitor concentration of aqueous extract was ppmIc50 = 70.1 and for extract containing iron nano particles was ppmIc50 =64.35, This indicates that although fennel extract has antioxidant properties, but addition of iron nano particles in solution increases its antioxidant properties. In the picture that prepared by electron microscopy the morphology of the nano particles formed by beta showed that the structure of the nano particles is almost spherical. The average size of the nano particles was 200 nm.
  • Conclusion: The presence of iron nano particles increased the antioxidant capacity. The presence of iron nano particles increased the amount of total phenolic compound. There is a direct relationship between the amount of phenolic compounds and their antioxidant and anticancer properties. Iron nano particles has antioxidant activity against human pathogen like ushershiekeli – sodomounos aerojinoza and staphylococcusoreus so its really useful for the cure of some disease of the humans. The production of nano particles was confirmed by spectroscopy UV_Vis and nano particles size recognition was with electron microscopy.
