  • Introduction: One of the extrinsic signaling pathways apoptosis is ligand binding to Fas receptor. The FAS-670A/G polymorphism is located in the promoter region that decreases the expression of this gene then may be associated with the development of cancer. The objective of this study is the evaluation of the association between -670A/G polymorphism with prostate cancer risk.
  • Methods: Our study conducted on 100 healthy men as control samples (39 to 82 years). FAS-670A/G polymorphism evaluated by RFLP-PCR then 10% of the results was confirmed by sequencing.
  • Results: The frequency of GG, AG, AA genotypes among pateints of prostate cancer were 37%, 22%, 41%, and also in control respectively 53%, 12%, 35%. Therefore the FAS-670G allele increases the risk of prostate cancer and may be known as mutant allele (P=0/044). On the other hand, the chances of developing prostate cancer seems to decline by the presence of genotype AA (p-value: 0/016, OR: 0/521, CI95%: 0/269-0/916). The age variable linked with cancer patients with AA genotype . Thus the increase in age was effective in those people (P= 0/039).
  • Conclusion: FAS-670A/G polymorphism showed a significant association with prostate cancer. Our results are confirmed with more samples.
