  • Introduction: Cardiovascular disease is the most important cause of death in the world. The heart needs a large volume of blood flow in order to bring nutrients and oxygen to the muscle tissue after damaging. It has been confirmed that cord blood stem cells are capable of giving rise to vascular endothelial-like cells. Cord blood stem cells have the ability to migrate and engraft to damaged tissue and decrease the size of infarction.
  • Methods: In the context of this overview, 12 articles were used between the years 2010 through the end of 2019 using the keywords of PubMed, Google scholar search engines and scientific web sites.
  • Results: Diseases that can be treated with umbilical cord blood stem cells contains restoration of damaged tissues in the heart and bone, thalassemia, leukemia, fanconi anemia, acute leukemia(AML,ALL), chronic leukemia(CML), defective diseases in lymphocyte production(non-hodgkin lymphoma, hodgkin's lymphoma), also, inherited anomalies of red blood cells(sickle cell anemia, DiGeorge syndrome(,kostmann's syndrome, leukocyte adhesion deficiency, plasma cell leukemia, inherited diseases, etc. Permanent loss of cardiomyocytes and the formation of scar tissue following a heart attack result in irreversible damage to cardiac function. Many studies showed that cord blood stem cells differentiate into cardiomyocytes and were able to induce regeneration of healthful cells from damaged cells.
  • Conclusion: The umbilical cord blood is a source of blood stem cells that has been used empirically as a replacement for bone marrow. in regenerative medicine, the latest scientific evidence suggests that using one's own stem cells likely delivers more favorable outcomes. The most important feature of umbilical cord blood stem cells is the availability of these cells. An infant's cord blood can be a life-saving treatment option. Cord blood stem cells are able to reverse the effects of ischemia, or loss of blood flow in the blood vessels.
