Effect of praziquantel drug on prevention of afflicting dogs with cestode echinococcus granulosus

Abstract


Introduction

Awareness of the impact range of praziquantel drug on prevention of afflicting dogs with echinococcus granulosus parasite and management and control of common illnesses between human beings and dogs.

Methods

This research utilized causative-comparative method (ex post facto). research community includes 180 dogs that were taken to zaghros veterinary hospital (kermanshah, iran) in march, may, june and july 2017. they categorized in two groups. first group includes 120 domestic dogs and used praziquantel drug (5 mg/kg) at least 4 times per year. second group includes 60 street dogs and was free of any helminth therapy background. in this research, stool samples of all dogs were purified by arecholine to increase the accuracy of measurement. then, they analyzed under light microscope.

Results

Results showed that there was not parasite egg in the domestic dogs but parasite egg was identified in 22 street dogs (36.3%).

Conclusion

Based on the research findings, using praziquantel drug can prevent afflicting the large number of dog with echinococcus granulosus cysts (hydatid cyst disease). in determining the efficiency of this method, it can be pointed that this drug because of full disintegration of worms removes the track of any affliction and inevitably can prevent afflicting human beings and animals by infection.
