Abstract

Introduction

According to previous studies, there are different supplements in order to prevent and treat diabetes. these studies showed that chlorogenic acid affect insulin, gip and gip-1 concentration as effective hormones in diabetes while the results of some studies show controversial effects. the purpose of this systematic review was to investigate the effect of chlorogenic acid on these hormones in human.

Methods

Based on eligibility criteria, systematic research was done in databases of google scholar, pubmed, isi, science direct, scopus and medline by the end of feb. of 2017. keywords included: "chlorogenic acid", "green coffee", "coffee", "gip", "glp-1" and "insulin". also, qualitative assessment of studies was conducted by the jadad table.

Results

After searching based on research method, 1631 studies were found and 8 studies were entered into the study. overall, the results of studies showed non-significant effect of chlorogenic acid in the any forms of coffee extract on blood insulin concentration. also, gip was decreased in one study and glp-1 was increased in another study.

Conclusion

Findings in this study demonstrated that the chlorogenic acid may have lowering effect on gip and increasing effect on glp-1 concentrations. however, the chlorogenic acid has no effect on insulin level. due to the lack of studies, further studies in future should be conducted to approve these results.
