Abstract

Introduction

Gastric cancer is the most common cancer in the world. it occurs as a result of many factor and there is massive investigation have being done in treating this disease. bax gene induces apoptotic pathway and has important role in cancer studies. in the other hand, use of anticancer herbal drugs because of having fewer side effects is of importance. rosa canina l is one of these herbal medicines. the aim of this study has been to investigating changes in gene expression of bax in rosa calina treated human ags adenocarcinoma cells lines.

Methods

Ags cells were treated with the aqueous extract of rosa canina l in different concentrations including 800,1200 and 2000 μg/ml. after 48 hours treatment, rna extraction has been done. following cdna synthesis, the rate of expression of bax gene was evaluated using real time pcr. gapdh gene was used as reference gene.

Results

The results of real time pcr show 4.5 and 4 fold increase in bax gene expression in concentration of 800, 1200 μg/ml respectively. there is no change in 2000 μg/ml of rosa canina l.

Conclusion

Rosa calina increased the rate of bax gene which can lead cancerous cell to programed cell death so it could be useful in the treatment of gastric cancer.
