  • Introduction: Astroviruses are one of the leading causes of gastrointestinal viral inflammation among young people, the elderly and immunocompromised, and it is estimated that in the United States, approximately 15,000 cases of food-borne diarrhea are reported annually. Astroviruses worldwide, they are scattered and are isolated from fowl, dogs, cats, pigs, cattle, sheep and humans. The main characteristic of astrovirus infection in humans and animals is the development of gastrointestinal inflammation. It has been estimated that astroviruses are up to 20 Percentage of total and 0.5% to 15% of epidemics cause gastrointestinal non-bacterial inflammation in humans. Most infections occur in children younger than 2 years of age. Although astroviruses cause mild infection in adults, they cause gastrointestinal inflammation in people with poor immune systems. Astroviruses are transmitted through fecal oral, contaminated food and water, as well as contact with the individual. Epidemiologically, there is little evidence of foodborne disease transmission, but transmission of these viruses through oyster and contaminated water has been reported.
  • Methods: Using keywords: virus, astrovirus, infectious diseases, etc. Browse the articles, journals, and books to gather information about astroviruses, including the extent of the damage, the prevalence of the disease. And the role of water and food in the transmission of disease.
  • Results: Astroviruses are involved in gastrointestinal inflammation caused by contaminated food, especially contaminated oyster. Clinically, astroviruses cause symptoms similar to calciviruses after a 3 to 4-day incubation period. However, shorter incubation periods (24-hour up to 36 hours) have also been reported, including symptoms of diarrhea, fever, nausea, malaise. General and sometimes vomiting. Diarrhea usually lasts 2 to 3 days, but can sometimes persist for up to 14 days with virus excreted from the stool. Acute illness and death can also be caused by these viruses, but they are rarely reported. It usually occurs in public places, especially in places where children are affected.
  • Conclusion: The only way to prevent astrovirus infection is to eliminate the common source of the virus and prevent its transmission. This is especially true in places like hospitals, day care centers and places where food is stored in They are produced (which is very likely to be transmitted from person to person), very important. Observing the health principles can prevent the spread of these viruses. Since astroviruses are highly resistant to alcoholic disinfectants, so washing Hands with soap and water are better than using this type of disinfectant Currently, there is no cure for astrovirus infection. However, ways to make immunization possible are under investigation.
