Cysticercus bovis are the intermediate stage in the life cycle of a human tapeworm (taenia saginata). cysticercus bovis causes small cysts in the muscles of cattle. cattle may also become infected by eating foodstuffs or concentrates that have been contaminated by human faeces. an affected person can remain infected for life unless treated. the human must get the tapeworm from cattle .this study was performed to determine the prevalence of cysticercosis in traps in slaughterhouses in piranshahr city since 2011 to 2015.
Methods
In this descriptive cross-sectional study, 11773 traps in slaughterhouses in piranshahr city since 2011 to 2015 were enrolled and the prevalence rate of cysticercosis in traps was determined.
Results
In this study, 38 (0.039%) out of 11773 of slaughtered cattle were contaminated with cysticercus bovis during the 2011-2015.
Conclusion
Totally, according to the obtained results, it may be concluded that the prevalence rate of cysticercosis in traps in slaughterhouses of piranshahr city since 2011 to 2015 was relatively low.
