A novel role for stem cells in anxiety disorders treatment

Abstract


Introduction

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental disorders which has affected one-eighth of the world's population. patients with anxiety disorders would not be able to have expected and logical response and their disorder would negatively affect their life. therefore, regarding the importance of anxiety disorders and their effect on patients' life, the object of this study is to evaluate the treatments of anxiety disorders and providing new therapeutic solutions.

English resources retrieved in google scholar, scopus, and science direct databases.

Results

According to the studies, it has recommended that there are several drug treatments for anxiety disorders such as serotonergic antidepressants, benzodiazepines, and anticonvulsants. understanding the pathophysiology of anxiety disorders is another strategy in the treatment of these disorders. psychotherapy (such as behavioral and cognitive psychotherapies) would improve the quality of life among patients with anxiety disorders. in the recent decades, the use of traditional medicine becomes popular due to the high cost of chemical drugs and their unpleasant effects. in the studies, it has been indicated that neurogenesis has an important role in the regulation of emotional states and might be used in the treatment of anxiety disorders. stem cell transplantation as a novel therapeutic approach seems to be a promising treatment for central nervous system damage. despite its application in various diseases, no research has been done in the field of treatment of anxiety disorders via neural stem cells.

Conclusion

Scrutinized research in the neural stem cells might provide grounds for the treatment of anxiety disorders.
